The long awaited decade and new year is upon us. As I talk to some of my peers, I hear of dreams and resolutions so huge ,its a wonder how they fit into their heads. However, we pray for God's favour and blessings throughout the year and of-course the decade. Urbanization and technological advancement, some might say ,is at it's peak right now. Automation is everywhere;in transport, agriculture, aquaculture ,restaurants and foods, shopping etc .The world has learnt how to become efficient and effective by leveraging on time and systems/people respectively. Humans have become intelligent to the point of exponentially reducing the time they take to perform tasks that were otherwise very time and resource consuming. .

It is therefore prudent to note that with the automation and urbanization comes something we don't really pay much attention to, toxicity.Intoxication is everywhere! Whether voluntary or involuntary, every human being on the planet is susceptible to toxins. From the food we eat,to the air we breathe, to the processed goods we acquire from retail outlets. Recently, towards the end of 2019 , the firebrand journalist from NTV ,Dennis Okari unearthed a story concerning the presence of aflatoxins in common maize flour brands consumed by Kenyans. Sad , isn't it? These streets aren't safe. The bottom line is that everyone is exposed to toxins in these technological era. Ignorance of this vital piece of information has lead to an exponential increase in cancer cases in comparison to the previous century.

According to the United States National Health institute website, Cancer is the name given to a collection of related diseases. In all types of cancer, some of the body’s cells begin to divide without stopping and spread into surrounding tissues. Major causes of the collection of diseases according to Wikipedia include Tobacco use. This specifically causes about 22% of cancer deaths. 10% are due to obesity, poor diet, lack of physical activity or excessive drinking of alcohol. Other factors include certain infections, exposure to ionizing radiation and environmental pollutants. In the developing world, 15% of cancers are due to infections such as Helicobacter pylori, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human papilloma virus infection, Epstein–Barr virus and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).These factors act, at least partly, by changing the genes of a cell.Typically, many genetic changes are required before cancer develops. Approximately 5–10% of cancers are due to inherited genetic defects from a person's parents. Cancer can be detected by certain signs and symptoms or screening tests. It is then typically further investigated by medical imaging and confirmed by biopsy. From these findings therefore ,32% of cancers are due to self-induced intoxication like tobacco and alcohol consumption.

Shielding one's self from this epidemic is evidently the most prudent thing to do in this decade. Inasmuch as great steps are being made towards technological advancement ,we would all like to live long enough to see the world evolve and grow. The easiest way would be to abstain from controlled substances such as alcohol and tobacco which cause a significant amount of cases.Lucky for us in this decade , there is a solution for basically every problem. Knowledge is indeed power. What can be done ,most of the times can be undone and therefore detoxification is an indispensable requirement to facilitate this. Eliminating the toxins we accumulate everyday before they become damning to our health is very prudent. Detoxification therefore should be a regular activity as exposure to toxins is also regular. How therefore does this process take place and what should one do? Check out our next post in these series as we go into detail on the relevance of detoxification in "The dawning 20's"
